Chapter 1: What We're Used To

"We said we'd only take a fifteen minute nap yet we stayed here longer than we should have." You felt strong arms hug you from behind, a chin resting on your shoulder.

"Hmmm...five more minutes?" You held onto Rogue's arms, attempting to not move too much from where you were laying in bed. You were just too comfortable right now!

"Then that five minutes will become another hour," he chuckled, leaving a small peck on your cheek, "besides, we should get ready for dinner with Frosch, Sting, and Lector."

"Yeah, that's true." You didn't want to make them wait. Rogue let go of you so that you both could get up from the bed. Then there was a small knock and a familiar voice through the door.

"Are you two ready?"

"Hai, hai, Fro-kun." You stretched a bit before answering. You found Sting and Lector behind Frosch, giving them a sheepish smile.

"Can we eat yet? I'm starving." Sting asked.

"Soon! Just let me change first!" You glanced at the cat duo. "Help me pick out an outfit!"

"We're just gonna go out to eat, you don't need to wear anything fancy."

"But I still gotta look somewhat decent! Besides, the clothes I'm wearing now isn't for going out." You went to your room which was on the 3rd floor, right above Rogue's room. You, Rogue, Sting, Lector, and Frosch lived in a co-ed dormitory. There were six floors, each alternating between boys and girls. You had no complaints with the building since most of the people who lived with you didn't cause that much trouble. However, what you loved most about it was that you lived with your close friends. After a few minutes of the two exceeds helping you pick an outfit, you three finally met the boys in front of Rogue's room. [1]

"Wait, before we leave, did we decide where we wanna eat? I'm pretty much good with anything for tonight." You knew that if you all went into town without a set destination, it would delay dinner even more.

"Fro wants to eat at Graham's restaurant!"

"I vote for that place, too!" Lector agreed with his cat partner.

"Hadn't had Graham's in a while so let's just go there." Sting began to led the way to the stairs. Rogue didn't have a preference at the moment, but most of the time, he went along with what everyone wanted. The black haired male took your hand in his, giving a small smile as you two were behind Lector, Sting, and Frosch.

The both of you began dating last year and in a few months, it'll be a year and a half. You and Rogue have known each other for a while, having met after joining Sabertooth. Your current guild was the first and only one that you've joined, knowing no other strong guilds in your town. Although, you felt conflicted with how Master Jiemma ran Sabertooth, it was what you were used to, but you were grateful to have Rogue and the others. After dinner, the five of you headed to the main headquarters of Sabertooth, haven't had been inside the whole day. Not everyone spent a lot of time at the building, usually only going there to pick out missions from the request board.

"Ne, ne, let's pick out a mission together?" You suggested to Rogue, finding that completing missions was one of the many ways you two bonded. Although every mission had to be taken seriously, you and Rogue felt that you both benefited one another. He felt that with you around, he was stronger, always doing his best to protect you.

"Okay." You heard Rogue agree with you.

"Are you gonna take a mission, too?" Frosch asked Sting, being held in your arms as Lector rested on the blonde's shoulder.

"We're just gonna check it out since tomorrow we're training." Sting grinned, having thought of new ways to increase his fighting abilities. As you headed towards the main room, you heard voices from your Master and a member of the guild. You saw a huge crowd standing far from Master Jiemma and a member, who you recognized as Deban. You knew most of the guild members' names, but never developed a close relationship with anyone other than Rogue, Sting, and the cat duo.

"I-I'm sorry, Master! But the mission was beginning to get too dangerous to continue! I barely escaped so I'm grateful to be here! I promise, I can go back and complete it once I've healed!" Deban was in terrible shape, his legs shaking due to exhaustion and injury.

"Sabertooth does NOT fear death! That's what it means to be the strongest! You should have risked your life! It would have been better if you died during that mission than returning as a coward! Sabertooth has no need for weaklings!" Jiemma shouted as he pounded his fist into Deban's stomach. He grabbed the male by the back of his shirt, throwing him to the wall. Your eyes widened slightly at the punishment Deban was receiving, still never being able to get used to Master's harsh treatments. Jiemma was a tough leader and showed no mercy if he felt that the guild's name was close to embarrassment.

Master! Stop, please, it's not-" You were about to interfere when Rogue placed a hand over your mouth, pulling you close to his body.

"Please...don't.' He whispered, giving you a concerned look as he shook his head in disagreement for what you wanted to do.

"But-!" Your voice was muffled against his hand as you felt yourself face him.

"___(y/n), please. I know the way Master runs things isn't something we can accept, but if you interfere, you'll get hurt, too. I can't let that happen." He said lowly in your ear, embracing you tightly, almost as if to prevent you from turning around to see more of Deban's amercement. Sting and Lector had their eyes closed, not saying a word as Frosch buried his face in your calf. Eventually Master left Deban alone, lifting your head once the noises decreased. You rushed towards Deban, a frown on your face at his condition and how no one else bothered to help.

"Don't worry, I'll take you to the medic room." You said gently, kneeling beside his broken body.

"What are you doing?" You heard Master say as Rogue joined your side protectively.

"I'm going to take Deban to the medic room. He needs help right away!"

"And who told you to do so?" Jiemma glared down at you as you stood up, returning the hard look. Although he was your master, it didn't give him the right to hurt people that way.

"Master, Deban might die if we don't take him out of here."

"No one is allowed to help! Leave him here! Let him find his own way!"

"But Mast-"

"Are you trying to go against me!?"

"No, Master, we are not." Rogue once again had his hand planted over your mouth, his arm around your waist to pull you away from Jiemma.

"We are leaving now." Rogue bowed his head to the leader of Sabertooth, shadows engulfing the both of you as you disappeared to a new location. Once far from Jiemma, you pushed yourself away from Rogue, giving him a confused and angry look.

"Why did you do that? We have to help Deban!"

"If Master felt provoked, he might have hurt you." Rogue frowned.

"But we couldn't just leave Deban like that! What if I was in his place, would you leave me there, too?" You turned your back to your boyfriend, rushing back to the room your fellow guild member was laying. Although there was no true friendship among some people of Sabertooth, you couldn't sit and watch your comrade suffer like that.

"__(y/n) wait!" Rogue said as Sting, Frosch, and Lector met with him. Rogue wasn't too far from the previous room so it was easy to spot his place.

"It's fine, Master was leaving so by the time she gets there, he should be gone."

"Yeah..." Rogue responded to Sting, thinking about how he made you upset.

After helping Deban recover and bringing him to his home, you went back to the dorm building, going to take a relaxing shower. Once dressed for the night, you sighed remembering the small disagreement with your shadow dragon boy. You hated it when there was tension between the two of you, even though you knew it was normal for couples to argue once in a while. Your head looked towards the door as you heard a couple soft knocks, moving away from where you were standing to answer it.

"Ro-kun?" You made a surprised expression as you looked at him.

"I apologize for making you upset, but I don't regret stopping you. I didn't do it because I thought it was right of Master to be punishing Deban, but I did it to protect you. Master doesn't care if it is a child, female, or male who angers him, he will bring them down. And the answer to your question before, if it was you Master was hurting, I wouldn't leave you. I wouldn't let that happen."

You let out a sigh, leaning against the door frame as you reached out for his hand.

"I'm sorry for getting mad, but I still don't think helping Deban was wrong either. But I would've done the same thing if I thought that Master was going to hurt you so I can understand where you're coming from." You gave him a small smile then moved closer to him, pecking his cheek.

"Anyway, where's Fro-kun?" You noticed he wasn't with him.

"He's playing with Lector."

"Hmmm...sokka."

"You still interested in a mission?" Rogue held up a request paper, remembering that your main reason for visiting the Sabertooth guild was to pick one for tomorrow.

"Hai! What's it say?" You invited him inside as you both sat on your bed, listening to Rogue read the contents of the request.
