Chapter 2: Sabertooth Saviors
"Ittekimasu!" You waved to Lector and Sting, wishing them a good day as they watched the three of you leave town for your mission.
"Ne, ne, so where are we going again?" Frosch asked while being held in your arms.
"We're going to a village near the Waas Mountains. Their village is being terrorized by trolls and are in dire need of help and protection."
"Sounds like an easy mission! Fro believes that we can complete it within a day!"
"Hopefully! I just want to get there as soon as possible so we can help."
Hours passed by and finally, you both made it to the designated town near the Waas Mountains. Although you three left early, you still arrived in the late afternoon due to traveling. It didn't matter though, the villagers seemed happy that you came.
"Are you the ones we requested help from?" The chief of the village asked, having been expecting members from the Sabertooth guild to appear.
"Yes, we are. I'm __(y/n) and this is Rogue and Frosch." You nodded, giving the elder a bow of respect.
"My name is Tomlin and welcome to the Dacian Village. Please, follow me." He began to lead you to a small and simple house. "Me and a few other villagers have prepared this place where you can stay if needed."
"Chief, shouldn't we have them find those trolls? It is almost getting dark! They'll be back!" You heard a few villagers exclaim.
"I understand, but we are asking these kind people a very big favor. We still have to show them hospitality and respect." Tomlin was afraid that if you or Rogue felt offended in, you would refuse to help them.
"It's all right, really. Tell us the mission first and then we can settle." You said, understanding their anxiousness.
"Thank you," Tomlin gave you a grateful nod, "For the past few weeks, trolls have been coming to our village. They have been demanding our jewelry or any expensive items. They also were taking our food, leaving barely anything for us to eat. Now, they have decided to take our young women. We have tried to follow and fight them, but their strength is greater than this entire village. They always come out during the dark, so tonight they will return and take more of our women since they have taken everything else."
"Please, please stop them." Tomlin pleaded.
"Yes, please don't let them take my daughter!"
"Protect us from the trolls!"
"I don't want them to take me away!"
You heard the people of Dacian panic as you glanced at Rogue.
"Don't worry, everyone! Fro is confident that Rogue and ___(y/n)-nee will defeat them! They're really strong!" Frosch announced happily as they looked at the three of you. They seemed to quiet down, talking among themselves as they finally decided to put their trust in you and Rogue.
"What time do they usually get here?" You asked Tomlin.
"Usually a couple hours after sunset."
"Okay, we'll be ready by then." You and Rogue had time before their arrival, which you used to formulate a plan. As you, Rogue, and Frosch entered the small home they provided, you sat at the table, wondering how to find these trolls. Frosch sits on the table in front of you, copying your thinking gesture.
"I got it." You lifted your head, getting ready to voice your idea.
"I'll let myself get captured. I'll pretend to be one of the villagers and let them take me."
"I can't let that happen. It's too dangerous." Rogue frowned, not fond of the idea of you being taken.
"I'll be fine, trust me. I have a feeling only a few trolls will come tonight and there could be more where they are hiding. We don't know where they are so if we let them take me, I can take them down. If we tried to look for them now, it might take time or if they find that we're here to stop them, they might stop bothering the village and they'll attack again when we're gone."
Rogue still didn't like how you were going to let the trolls kidnap you, but since you were set on this idea, he'll agree to it. Besides, he'll be watching and following from the shadows in case he would need to respond quickly.
"Fine, but if I see you're in any danger, I'm not hesitating to interfere."
"I know." You felt him kiss your temple as you gave him a small smile.
"What should Frosch do?" The green cat asked.
"You're gonna have to stay with Rogue-kun. The trolls might get suspicious if they see that a cat was coming along."
"Okay! Fro will make sure that everything will work out!"
Before the trolls would raid the village for tonight, you had asked the chief to gather the townspeople for a meeting. You wanted everyone to be aware of your plan so that they would hopefully cooperate.
"When the trolls come, please act as you normally would. We don't want the them finding out that we are here to stop them. Let them take the girls and-"
"What?! Take the girls? What kind of plan is this?"
"I'll never hand my daughter to them!"
"I thought you were going to hep!"
"If you want our help, you are going to need to be quiet and listen." Rogue said in a low and impatient tone, glaring at the crowd before you. The townspeople immediately stopped their complaints and gave their attention in reaction to Rogue's agitation.
"Arigato," you smiled at your boyfriend then looked back to the surrounding audience, "please, I know how anxious everyone is, but I won't let anything happen to the girls because I will be going with them. I am going to act as a villager and let them take me. This way, I will know where their lair is and while we're going to their place, Rogue and Frosch will be following secretly."
"That is too risky! My precious granddaughter might-"
"I-I'll do it." A village girl spoke up, cutting her grandmother off.
"But-"
"If we somehow can help these three fight off the trolls, then I'll follow her plan."
Her words seemed to encourage the rest of the young women as most of them were willing to participate. It was a lot of responsibility that you and your partners had, but it was needed to save this village. A few elder women handed you some clothes to change into so that you wouldn't stand out too much. You wore a typical villager's dress along with a hooded cape, now waiting for the enemies' arrival.
"Now remember, do not do anything until I say so." you said to Rogue before he would leave to hide.
"If they try to hurt you, I-"
"I know, but just hold out until I give the signal. We need this to work out."
"Fine." Rogue agreed reluctantly then you gave his lips a small peck. He let out a small sigh before going to his hiding spot as you went to blend with the other women. A few moments later, by the petrified looks on the townspeople's faces, you knew that the trolls were here.
"Please, don't take anything or anyone from us anymore! We have nothing left!" You heard Tomlin beg one of the trolls as they laughed and one of them kicked him to the ground.
"Chief!" A couple of men were by his side, helping him up.
"You already know why we are here! Give us your women!"
People began to beg and resist, some trying to run away as you did the same, attempting to copy their usual reaction to the trolls' demands. Eventually, they caught a good amount of women, including you as your heart sank at the sobs of the friends and family members of the captives. You had to stay positive as you repeatedly visualized your plan's success. It had to work! It will! The enemies tightly tied ropes around your wrists and left a short amount of the material to act as a leash. They roughly pulled you and the other women by your hands, leading you away from Dacian. Your heart was racing in hopes of defeating the trolls and getting the rest of the captives to safety. The girls crying didn't help your slight anxiety, feeling as if they didn't trust you to save them.
"Hurry it up!" You heard one of the trolls reply as the one holding your rope pulled you roughly forward.
"You know, I don't even know if we caught a girl or not." Your captor moved closely to you, trying to distinguish your face since you were wearing your hood.
"We should get a better look." He said as your hood was pulled off your head, the troll grabbing your face, moving it side to side.
"Hmmm...you may have a pretty face, but I still need to validate." The troll smirked, ripping off your hooded cape and discarding to the ground. He let out a low, chuckle, licking his lips as his eyes were anywhere but your face. You glared hard at him as you tried to dispel the creepy feeling rising in your body. God, you felt so disgusted by him, but you couldn't wait to pummel his face.
--
Rogue growled loudly, clenching his fist as he watched the perverted troll undress you with his eyes. He moved slightly, almost forgetting his promise of waiting for your signal.
"Rogue, ___(y/n)-nee didn't say anything, yet. I know how you feel, but we gotta wait." Frosch tried to calm his best friend then heard the trolls comment on what that noise was. When Rogue made a step forward, his foot accidentally broke a thin twig, the snapping sound alerting the trolls.
"What was that?" One of them asked as they looked around their surroundings. Although Rogue and Frosch weren't visible, they were close enough that if they were to make any noise, it could be heard.
"I heard a growl so probably just a wolf passing by." Another concluded, the thought of being followed not part of their assumptions. They continued their journey to the hideout, Rogue already knowing who his first target would be when you would give the sign to attack.
--
You and the group were taken to an open area with a large cave behind it. Outside of the cave were the trolls and the women, the females being put to hard labor. There was one group making an enormous amount of meals, another cutting wood to make fire, polishing and making weapons, moving large stones to clear the path of the cave, and decorating the inside and outside of the cavern. It seemed as if they were preparing a visit from someone important.
"You! Go and make some food!"
"You two start making some more weapons!"
"And you start moving these rocks!" The new group were given their commands, immediately obeying in fear of getting injured or killed.
'Why are they doing this? I have to find out before we make our move.' You thought to yourself as you and three other girls walked to a large boulder, attempting to push it. You held back, not wanting to give away your strength and exposing your true identity.
"This is..this is just too hard! How can we push this?" One girl said as tears ran down her face, wanting to return to her village.
"Why are you lazing around?! Hurry up!" One troll shouted, shoving her slightly towards the rock to force her to resume working.
"Why do we have to do all this? Why can't we just return home?!" You used this chance to find out the reason behind kidnapping the women and forcing them into different types of labor.
"Are you trying to piss me off?!" He raised his hand to strike but one of his comrades grabbed it, trying to calm his anger.
"We do not have time to argue with them. Our leader is coming back soon so have to make sure everything is in order."
"Who is coming back? Why does it matter? What is going to happen to us?" You kept provoking them, hoping to obtain more details.
"Listen, woman. When the leader comes back, your mouth better be kept shut. Our leader will not tolerate disrespect." The second troll retorted, letting go of his friend's hand.
"Now do as you were told." He pushed you hard towards the boulder, having no time for your questions.
"We are all going to be the brides of the leader," You heard one of the girls whisper, "and once the leader is finished with us, he will give the ones he doesn't like to the rest of his friends." She began to sob, hating the thought of being used like that. You concluded that she was one of the first few people who were taken here by the slightly dark bags under her eyes, unkempt hair, and dirty clothes. Her eyes were also filled with distress and sadness, screaming for a savior.
"Thank you," You nodded as you took your hands off the boulder, "it's going to be all right."
"What do you mean?"
"Everyone, listen! You women will finish your tasks in the next five minutes or there will be consequences! Then once you're done with your work, you will go down to the river near by and freshen yourselves! You all need to look presentable to our leader! And to make sure that you don't escape, we're all going to be watching." His ugly smirk made you glare, angry at how he was becoming excited at the thought of invading the women's privacy. Unfortunately for him, you were gladly going to destroy his dream. You were able to obtain all the important information so there was no need to hold back anymore.
"No one is going to be watching anyone." You spoke loudly, walking towards the middle to attract everyone's attention. "Here's what's gonna happen. All of the women are going to leave then me and my partners are going to kick all your asses."
"The hell are you talking about? Get back to work!" The troll who captured yelled, showing his whip in an attempt to threaten you. Before you could retaliate, a black blur propelled him hard towards his side, watching him skid on the soil and hitting a tree.
"Mina-san, follow me! Leave the trolls to __(y/n)-nee and Rogue! Fro is gonna lead you back to your home!" The women immediately recognized your rebellion as part of Tomlin's plan to help them escape. Not going to waste this opportunity, they let the flying cat direct them back to their village.
"Capture them and kill that cat!"
"I won't let you." Rogue glared as a wall of shadow surrounded the perimeter, preventing anyone from coming in and going out. He made the barrier tall enough so that they wouldn't be able to harm his feline friend. He remembered the disrespect they had towards you and it took a lot of willpower and Fro's persuading to not come out from his hiding spot. He then took out those that directly insulted you first, finding that their defeat quelled his rage.
"Rogue!" He heard his girlfriend shout and saw you running towards his way with a troll behind you. He knew what you wanted, having practiced fighting together many times. He created a wall of shadow in front of him as your feet made contact with the barrier, pushing yourself off of it to get behind the enemy who was chasing you. Your foot smashed against his face, knocking him out as you and Rogue took out the rest of the troll army.
"Their leader should be coming back soon." You panted, Rogue nodded in acknowledgement while he tried to catch his breath. You look around the area, finding that you both were standing in the middle of defeated trolls.
"What the hell is going on here? Why are my men napping on the floor!?"
"Well, I guess he's the one." You composed yourself again as Rogue was ready for defense. He was taller and wider than his men despite looking similar to his comrades. He had the same discolored grey and green skin tone along with deep wrinkles that gave him a monster look. His jaw was very pronounced and his bottom sharp teeth added to his malicious demeanor. He dropped his things on the ground roughly indicating his impatience and anger.
"Where are my brides!?" He kicked one of his men, trying to wake him.
"I let them go." You glared.
"What?! You're telling me you did all of this?"
"Not by myself." You tilted your head towards Rogue, indicating that he was part of the fall of the troll army. He let out a roar, charging towards Rogue first. The shadow boy dodged the impact through a jump, but the leader troll reached up and grabbed his ankle before he went any further from the ground. His eyes widened slightly as he felt his body being propelled towards a pile of boulders.
"Ro-kun!"
"You! You will be my bride for now before I get those women again! I am the great Erskine and I show no mercy to those who go against me!"
"Like I'll ever let you touch those women, you pig!" You snapped, gathering your magical energy and expelling it to your target.
"And besides, I'm already taken so you'll never be able to have me."
"By who!?" Erskine readied his huge club, positioning himself properly for a hit.
"By me." Rogue materialized before him, inhaling quickly and keeping the air inside by sealing his lips, "Eiryu no hoko!"
He exhales a great amount of pressure and shadows from his mouth, his dragon breath sending Erskine into the cave. The impact causes the structure to collapse, broken pieces of the den pile and crush the troll leader.
"Nice!" You complimented Rogue on his attack. The two of you then grabbed whatever goods belonged to the village before returning. The Dacian citizens cheered loudly at the return of not only their people and goods, but of their heroes. Without you and Rogue, their home might have been completely demolished by the greedy trolls.
"Thank you. Thank you so much!" Tomlin takes yours and Rogue's hands, holding them together as he shakes them slightly. He bows lowly a few times, joyful and relieved tears dripping from his eyes.
"It really was no problem. I'm glad we got to help." You smiled, feeling rewarded at how appreciative the Dacian people were. The town held a celebration that night to express their gratefulness. A bonfire was lit in the middle of town for a source of heat and light with women and men dancing around its perimeter. There was loud music and laughing, making you feel as if you had accidentally went to a wrong town. The town was not this lively until your arrival which made you feel proud of today's success.
"Don't you want to dance around, Ro-kun?" you asked before settling beside the shadow dragon.
"I'm not interested."
You playfully roll your eyes then linked your arm with his. He felt you lay your head on his shoulder, Rogue lacing his fingers with his special someone.
"I wish our guild could be this fun."
"You know Master finds it childish and useless. If we have the time to be playing around, then we should focus on getting stronger. He won't allow the guild to become weak."
"Hai, hai. Wakata." A sigh slips from your mouth, Rogue catching your small frown.
"Are you unhappy?"
"Hm?" You look up at him and see a hint of worry in his eyes. "No, of course not. I mean, I guess that's what we get if we want to maintain our reputation. But as long as I have you, I'm happy. Oh, and of course I'm happy with Fro-kun, Lector-kun, and Sting-kun, but you matter more. Well, I guess you and Fro-kun are even, but that doesn't mean I don't care for Sting-kun and Lector-kun. Ahh, well, you know what I mean, ne?"
Rogue chuckles in response before carefully tilting your chin up. He leans down to kiss your lips and you gladly return it. You felt him keep it short, but your hand is now placed behind his head, forcing his lips to stay longer on yours. You grin against him, chuckling as you kiss him with a little more passion. Rogue was surprised by the sudden gesture, but doesn't deny your desire for more. It was your turn to end it, not wanting to attract unwanted attention from the villagers.
"Even though Master doesn't allow the guild to have fun, it doesn't mean we can't in private." You wink, Rogue's cheeks giving a tint of pink at your suggestion. You giggle jokingly behind your hand, pecking his cheek before reverting back to your original position and thoroughly enjoying the rest of the night.
--
"When is __(y/n)-nee coming back?" Frosch asked, looking towards his friend. It's been a couple of days since the last mission you three took together and you were currently on another one.
"She just left yesterday and won't be back for another two days. But she'll be back soon."
"Fro thinks so, too, but I wish she was here now. Fro wants to play!"
"I know, but be patient." Rogue was fixing a few things in his room while Frosch was sitting on his desk, munching on a raw fish.
"Rogue, Fro wants-" The green exceed was disrupted by the sound of the door being shoved against the wall.
"Rogue!" Sting and Lector barge into the room, making Rogue frown at their panicked expressions. "You gotta come to the guild, __(y/n)'s in trouble!"
make it look like that's rouge's child >///<
