Chapter 3: I Just Want You To Know This

*~Four Years Ago~* (Continued)

You got up from your bed, planning to drive them away from your home. You stopped in front of the door, hearing heavy creaking from outside the hallway. Someone was upstairs! You moved to the side just in time as that person opened your door. Your heart was pounding, but you needed to do something to get these intruders out! You made yourself known, attempting to punch the guy, but you missed.

"Where you even hitting?" The burglar mocked as he pushed you hard to the wall. "Now, it would be wise to give us everything or else."

"Get out!" You screamed, pushing him back to the hallway. The man threw a punch to your face, making contact, but you used that as a guide. As soon as you felt something hit your face, you grabbed it, throwing him hard over your shoulder.

"What was that!?" You heard two more voices from downstairs. Your hand was still around the male's wrist and you broke his arm, knowing it would be hard for him to attack with an immense pain going through him. You ran downstairs, using the railing to guide you. Before you reached the last step, you felt something stiff hit you in your face, stunning you for a few minutes.

"What did you do to Galven!?" One of them demanded and you tried to detect where he was through his voice. You charged to where you assumed he was, trying to throw a hit.

"You can get us if you can't see!" As much as you hated that, it was true! You weren't used to this even after all these months. Most of the time you had help around your house. You grabbed a decorative object from a table that you felt against your hip, making guess as to where they were.

"Get her! I don't know what Galven is doing, but let's get outta here!" You heard the person's voice loudest to the left so you aimed, propelling the item. The second person let out a shout of pain, confirming that you landed a hit. However, his partner took this chance to pound what felt like a bat against your back, making you fall to one knee. You were struck again at the side of your arm, forcing you to go in the direction of the swing.

"Hurry and help me hold her down!" The one who struck you yelled at his partner, feeling the second male pin your arms above your head. The bat wielder sat on top of you, their pressure and weight pinning you to the wooden floor.

"You better stop resisting or we'll really hurt ya. All we wanted was just a few things from ya. If you had just behaved, we wouldn't have had to hit ya."

"This is MY house. I'm not gonna let some strangers try to rob me!"

"Hey, we ain't got nothing. You should share some of your wealth."

"Why don't you earn it by working hard instead of stealing!"

The stranger wrapped something around your mouth, forcing you to stop talking.

"There, now that's better," he made sure that the cloth over your lips was securely tied, "now that she's quiet...she ain't that bad looking."

"You're right..she's kinda hot."

These men were disgusting! Although you were blind, you could feel their stares on your body. You hated this. Hated how you were pinned to the floor because you weren't able to take them out a long time ago. If you had your vision, they wouldn't have even made it to the second floor. The one sitting on you let out a low chuckle and you knew that your body was in danger in the position you were in. You struggled against the one holding onto your wrist, but the more you did, the tighter his grip became.

"You're making it worse if you keep doing that!" The bat man gripped your face, almost as if he was trying to make you focus on his demand. You collided your forehead against his nose and eye area when you felt how close he was. He held his face, his weight become lighter as you maneuvered your leg to sweep him off you. You then swung your other leg over your head to expel the other burglar.

You rolled off to the side once free, running out of that house. As much as you wanted to protect your belongings and home, your first priority was your safety. Although you had years of experience as a mage, what good would it be if you couldn't aim for your opponents correctly? You would end up destroying your home if you summoned your magic attacks. Also, your martial art skills worked perfectly if you could see. You can't aim for your targets if you didn't know where they were. You ran to the destination where you felt safe and knew how to get there the best.

Fairy Tail guild.

You almost tripped when you were at the low set, two stairs in front of the doors, establishing your location. You didn't have the key to the inside, but you would wait until someone came to open the guild. Somehow, just being close to this place made you feel safer.

--

The next morning, Master, Mira, Mystogan, and Erza were the first people to arrive at the guild. Mira gasped, seeing you sitting in front of the steps with your head buried in your arms.

"__(y/n)." Mystogan ran by your side first, kneeling beside your slightly battered form. "What happened?"

"Mysto-kun..." You lifted your head to feel him close to you. "Master...Mira-chan...Erza-chan.."

"You're hurt." Erza said.

"Three people broke into my house...." You began to sniffle, remembering the fear of them holding you down. You wiped your right eye of a tear that came out, sniffling again.

"Let's get you inside first." Master wanted to get you settled before he would hear the entire story and decide his method of punishment to those burglars. Mira unlocked the door, Erza following after the white haired girl help set up one of the nursing rooms upstairs.

You tried to stand up, but your legs went numb from the position you were in for the past few hours.

"Are you all right?" Mystogan asked, catching your unsteady gait.

"Yeah, s-sorry. My legs fell asleep." You gave him a small smile, trying to move carefully on your own. Because you slept in that sitting posture for a while, your legs were trying to adjust to movement again. Mystogan could see that you were having trouble so he lifted you up in his arms and you were thankful for his help.

"Sorry..." you whispered, leaning your head on his shoulder as you closed your tired eyes.

"Don't be." He carried you upstairs to one of the rooms that Mira had finished preparing. He set you on the edge of the bed, the feeling beginning to return to your lower limbs.

"I'm just going to clean the scrapes on you, okay?" Erza said gently, sitting beside you as you felt her gently take your arm. She knew there weren't any life threatening wounds since you didn't show any signs of unbearable pain.

"Sorry, but can the boys leave for a few minutes?" Mira asked Master and Mystogan, holding a spare set of clothes for you to change in so that you were more comfortable. The boys returned when you finished changing and having properly cleaned your light abrasions. You explained the entire story and you could sense how different the air was in the room.

"I'm sorry. I'm probably causing trouble. I should've been more careful or at least stayed and fought more."

"No," you heard Erza's voice, "you are no trouble at all. We're glad that you came here and it was a smart move to have gotten away from your house. Who knows what could have happened if you stayed. Your safety comes first, remember that."

"Thanks.." you gave her a small smile then attempted to get out of bed.

"Where are you going?" Mira asked.

"Back home. I need to check what they stole."

"You should rest. I doubt they are going to come back during the day." Master rejected the idea of you returning at the moment.

"I'll go for you. Tell me if there are specific items I should be looking for and where." Erza volunteered, knowing how uneasy you felt with your house vacant. After a while, you were given your space, Mira and Master going back downstairs to greet the rest of the members, but Mystogan stayed with you.

"I think I'm gonna rest for a little bit so if you want to go downstairs, you can." You laid comfortably on the bed, smiling slightly at the blue haired illusionist.

"I'll go down in a bit," he gently stroked your hand, "and rest as much as you want to."

You nodded your head, closing your eyes as fatigue was dominating your body, "...gomen."

Sorry was the last thing you whispered before falling asleep, Mystogan gently squeezing your hand then heading downstairs.

--

"WHAT!?" Mystogan heard Natsu shout loudly in anger as he heard Master and Mira explaining your situation.

"Those bastards! I swear I'll go find them!" Natsu growled.

"You're gonna have to leave some for me!" Gray took off his shirt, his entire demeanor ready for battle.

"Those cowards aren't men!" Elfman roared as he tightened both his fists.

"Don't leave me out." Cana said, her cards floating around her.

"Let's go!!"

"Aye sir!!"

"Hold it!" Erza replied, not having left yet since the other members were arriving at the same time. She knew that the others would find out and decided to wait for Natsu, Gray, and Happy to go with her.

"Not everyone can go to ___(y/n)'s house. Some of us have go to the mayor and around the entire town to make everyone aware of the burglars." As the number one guild in Fiore and protectors of the Magnolia town, it was Fairy Tail's duty to prevent harm to the townspeople.

"She's right. We don't know if we'll catch them today, but we need to prevent another incident." Master agreed with Erza's plan, no one else opposing to her proposal. The only ones who stayed behind were Mystogan, Mira, and Master, Makarov wanting to discuss your safety.

--

"___(y/n)!!!"

"Oi! Natsu! Move outta the way!"

You felt yourself being ripped away from dreamland, returning to reality after hearing Natsu's and Gray's voices. A loud bang of the door being forced opened stimulated your sense of hearing, turning your head in that direction.

"Natsu-kun? Gray-kun?" You rubbed your eyes as your body adjusted itself to being awake.

"Look at what you two did. What the hell did I tell you about barging in?" Erza's deep and low voice sent shivers down your back as you could hear Natsu and Gray shaking in fear.

"G-g-gomen nasai!" Both were embracing each other, fearful of Erza's wrath as Mystogan sighed at their behavior.

"Sorry! Did we wake you?" Happy flew over to you as you sat up in bed.

"It's all right. I needed to wake up anyway." You weren't sure on how long you were asleep for, but you didn't want to be staying in bed all day.

"Well, we got you some gifts to cheer you up!" Happy replied with great joy. "I got you some fish! It's rrrrreally good!"

"And Natsu got you some flowers!"

"H-h-here ya g-go." Natsu was struggling to get his words out due to Erza strangling him with his own scarf.

"And Gray made you a small ice figurine!"

"H-h-hope you l-l-like it." Gray was in the same predicament as Natsu, being held in a tight chokehold by the mighty Titania.

"I apologize for these two's rudeness," Erza finally let go of the ice and fire boys, walking over to you to place a big yet light box in your hands, "it is a cake from the bakery. I hope you enjoy it."

"Arigato," you felt them place their presents on the bed, "so, what happened when you went to my house?"

Erza explained what was lost and what was left in your home, which wasn't much. Your eyes were staring downwards, unsure of what to say. What was going to happen now? You were smart enough to leave a great sum of your earnings to the bank, but what about your precious items? [1]

"Don't worry, __(y/n). I managed to catch their scent so they won't get too far from us. Even if they're traveling right now, we WILL find them and they'll pay for everything!" Natsu promised, as you nodded in response.

"Erza, Natsu, Gray, Happy...would it be all right if you could leave us for a moment?" Master asked, the four leaving him and Mystogan with you.

"__(y/n), I'm sorry for what happened last night and I assure you that justice will be brought. However, I do not believe it is safe for you to return home."

"What do you mean?" You tilted your head, trying to face where you believed he was standing.

"I am not saying you are incapable, but I don't want anything even worse to occur. With what you are going through, let us help you. I am not doubting your strength, but I just want you safe. Most likely, those men have been keeping an eye on you and took advantage of your disability. So," Master then glanced at one of his S class mages, "for now, I want you to live with Mystogan. Knowing your relationship, I'm sure it is best if you stayed with him. I also advise that if he is not around, that you stay with someone else just so you aren't alone. This is all temporary. I know it is a big change, but it is not permanent. You might be frustrated with me, but I will stand firm with my decision. I will not allow anymore harm upon my children."

"I..understand." As much as you didn't fully agree with his choice, it was for the best. Besides, you didn't want to become any more of a burden if another disaster should happen.

Before it got too late into the day, you and Mystogan went back to your house to gather your clothes and other items, whatever was still present, and transport them to his house. It did take some time, but you managed to move all your important things. You both were making the last trip from your house to his, walking in silence as you held onto his arm. Your thoughts were scattered everywhere, but the question that came up the most was 'what would happen after this?'.

You let go of Mystogan's arm, trying to feel like you didn't need to depend on someone for everything. All you had to do was walk straight and he would tell you when to turn, right? That wasn't so bad. As you tried to guess the answer to your most puzzling question, you felt yourself collide with another person, hearing something thud on the floor.

"Damnit! Look at what you did!" A male shouted.

"S-sorry! I didn't see, I-"

"What are you, blind or something?! Open your eyes, woman!" You felt him grab you roughly on your shoulder, giving you a small shake. Mystogan glared hard at the stranger, grasping his hand tightly, forcing him to let you go.

"Leave her alone. She didn't mean it." Mystogan said in a threatening tone.

"Did you not see what she did? She was clearly in my way and didn't move! She's got eyes, so she shouldn't have been in my way!"

Mystogan caught your silence, quickly using his elbow to shut the man up before he continued with his insensitivity. Your blue haired friend grasped your hand gently, leading you away from the offending man.

"He didn't hurt you, right?" You responded by shaking your head.

"Don't listen to him. You didn't do anything wrong." You replied with a nod, letting him lead the way to your new yet temporary house. You've been there before, but that didn't mean you knew everything in his house. Mystogan oriented you around his place, but you knew you were going to need him to explain it again later on. He helped you settle into his extra room, making sure to help if you needed. You had skipped dinner, your thoughts blocking out your hunger. You felt so stressed that you didn't know where or how to start with your problems.

'Maybe a drink will calm me." You went downstairs to the kitchen, feeling your way through the cooking room. You took a guess as to which cabinet the cups were, refusing to bother Mystogan. Where the cups were placed made it difficult for you to reach it. You were trying to confirm the object by touch, attempting to grasp it from the shelf. Without properly holding the cup, it fell from its spot, hitting the counter and then the floor, causing a loud shatter. You let out a gasp, realizing what happened.

Oh no! You broke one of his cups! Kuso! What if it was one of his favorites? Not even a day living with him and you're causing a mess!

'I need to fix it!' You panicked slightly, not wanting to anger Mystogan. He was doing you a favor by letting you stay with him and if you were becoming an annoyance, he could kick you out. Although you were best friends, that didn't mean you should be careless.

"What happened? Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Mystogan came rushing down the steps, seeing you kneeling on the floor with broken glass. Since you didn't see exactly where the pieces were, you accidentally had a few shards pierce through your skin.

"I-I'm sorry! I...I wasn't being careful enough! I was trying to get a cup, but...I guess I pulled it too much. I'll fix it, I promise" Mystogan could hear the anxiousness in your voice, his eyes widening slightly as your hands were becoming cut when you picked up the pieces.

"No, please, __(y/n), just leave it there. I'll clean it. There's nothing to worry about, really. I don't mind at all. I know you didn't do it on purpose. I have a lot of other cups left so it isn't a big deal." He tried to calm you, gently grabbing your wrists so that he would not only avoid penetrating his hands by the glass, but to also not further deepen your small lacerations.

"Mysto-kun, please, let me fix it. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I made the mess so you shouldn't be paying for it. I...I'm sorry...I really am!" You closed your eyes tightly and he could see tears seeping through.

"__(y/n)...oi, it's fine, really. Just leave the rest of the pieces on the floor and it will be taken care of. You have a few cuts and those are more important to fix than a cup."

"Please...just let me fix it..." your small tears began to escalate to sobs, indicating that there was more affecting you than the shattered beverage container.

"__(y/n)..."

"I...I hate this...I really do. I can't do anything! I thought I'd get used to this stupid blindness, but no! I feel so weak! So stupid! I've bothered my brother for months, the night I get the house to myself, I get robbed, people scream at me for thinking that I'm bumping into them on purpose, I can't even live in my own home, I'm making the guild worry about me, and I'm burdening my best friend! I don't even want to do this anymore! I just can't! My fighting ability is terrible. I can't even defend myself properly or be somewhat helpful to my friends. I'm so damn useless! Doing anything is a struggle!  I...I don't want to live like this anymore! I hate this so much! I just...I just want to give up!" Mystogan listened to your words, his heart breaking at every sentence you finished. He could not only see how distressed you were, but feel your crying heart. As soon as you finished your last sentence, he became alarmed, worried that you might not want to live anymore. He was frightened that you would take yourself away from him.

No! He wasn't going to allow it!

He placed his hands on your face and you felt bare lips touching yours. Your eyes widened for a moment before becoming aware of his kiss and responding back. You could feel his emotions through the kiss and they were fighting with the feelings in your heart. Your intention was to not continue like this, but his, he was telling you to keep going! Telling you to keep fighting! The clashing of two different strong emotions intensified the kiss, until you were the first to break it by whispering his name sadly. He didn't completely stop the kiss, ending it slowly with small pecks on your lips.

"I know it's hard, but I don't want you to give up. You can't." His thumbs gently swiped away your tears, "I know you're better than that. I understand this curse is a burden to you, but that doesn't mean you can't find a way to adjust temporarily. We were suppose to have found the answer, but it's a bit difficult than we expected. But we aren't giving up and you shouldn't either."

"You aren't weak. You aren't stupid. Yes, your blindness is a hindrance to you, but that doesn't mean you should let it take over your life. And it doesn't mean you should shoulder all the burden. Let your friends and family help. Let ME help. You aren't alone, __(y/n). You have me, don't you, unless you are tired of my presence?" You were about to answer his question, but he didn't give you enough time.

"It hurts to see you like this and all I want to do is help the person who I care about the most and see your smile again. So please, please don't give up. So what if you need to depend on us for a little bit? That doesn't make you any less of who you are. There isn't anything wrong with needing your friends, is there? Because I know that I need you, __(y/n). I will always need you." Mystogan lowered his voice near the end, staring at you with a slightly sad expression. He hoped that his words were able to persuade you from your previous thoughts. You buried your face in his chest, crying loudly as he allowed you to let go of all that stress you were keeping to yourself. He held you close, rubbing your back in an effort to soothe your sobs. After a while, your body and mind were exhausted from the crying, Mystogan feeling you shake much less.

"C'mon, let me wrap your cuts." He said gently, having neglected your open wounds long enough. You felt him carry you upstairs, letting go of the feeling that you were only a burden and allowing him to help. You were the selfless type, but there were times when you needed to be selfish also and let others do things for you.

Sharp pain jolted up and down the nerves of your body as Mystogan extracted the shards of glass from your wounds. Once that was complete, he cleaned the lacerations, applied a special ointment to help with the healing process, and securely wrapped bandages around your cuts.

"C'mon, you should get some rest." Your best friend brought you to your room, helping you on the bed. You kept a gentle grip on his arm, preventing the beautiful male from moving.

"...stay with me?" You didn't feel like being alone right now. He nodded, placing himself right beside you as he felt you move closer to his body. He let out a small smile, his arm acting as a pillow for your head.

"You know I love you, right?" He whispered and you paused slightly. Now that had a lot of meaning behind it. Did he love you as a lover did? Or did he mean that he loved you as a best friend? Nowadays, the word 'love' wasn't only special between lovers.

"I love you, too." Your head tilted upwards, giving him a tiny smile.

Although Mystogan did mean that he loved you in a way a lover would, he would not force his feelings upon you. At the moment, you had enough to worry about and maybe it was best to wait to act on these feelings until everything was settled. Besides, he didn't know if you care for him at that level. Yes, you did respond to him with those three powerful words, but did you mean it in a way a friend would?
