Yogi x ReaderChapter 3: Changes
"All right, __(y/n), say 'ahhh'." You listen to your speech therapist and follow his instructions.
"Good, now try 'eeee'."
You have been seeing your speech therapist for the past few weeks, Akari-sensei and Ryoushi-sensei having both recommended this to be part of your treatment for your mutism. It was to practice your vocal chords and prevent straining when you felt ready to speak. This was also to slowly get you used to utilizing your voice in front of people. You did the usual routine of sounding out the alphabet and vowels. The beginning of the week was the start of you saying short words such as your name, places, and various everyday, simple terms.
"What is your name?" He asks and you remember the routine from a few days ago.
"How are you feeling?"
"Do you know what my name is?"
"What is today?"
"I heard you had a party last night. Tell me about it?"
"We ha-" You attempt to explain in full detail but your voice doesn't flow out as you wish it would. Something is still holding you back and you withdraw slightly from the conversation, unable to give an explanation. You realize that this person was still a stranger to you, despite helping with your speech for the past weeks. What if he tried to do something bad to you when you let your guard down just like the others?
"C'mon, __(y/n). Won't you tell me about your party?"
You look down at your electronic pad and Seigi-sensei places his hand over it.
"No, no, __(y/n). I want to hear it, not read it."
You bite your bottom lip, trying again but close your mouth before you could produce a complete sentence.
"Little words aren't enough. I need sentences. COMPLETE sentences." He lets out a frustrated sigh. You are about to write a message after being unable to answer his previous question and your failed attempt causes him to express his anger. He slaps his hand down hard on the device, the screen cracking at the hard impact on the floor.
"Damnit, I cannot keep going on like this! Say more than one word! It's so simple! Why can't you do it?" He suddenly grabs your face roughly, pulling it up in a painful and awkward position.
"Answer me! Explain to me what you did yesterday? How hard of a question is that?" His free hand grasps your shoulder, shaking you hard. You remain silent, mentally shouting for him to stop. Your hands latch onto his wrists in hopes of loosening his fingers. He swipes away one hand and captures it tightly to regain control.
"You will no longer use that piece of shit pad! From now on, only sentences! Got it!?" He moves you back and forth and your eyes become wide at an upcoming memory.
'You will do what you are told!
'Do you want to die?
'They'll kill you if you keep acting like that!
Cries of men and women cause you to tear, but hands of an unfamiliar individual on your body increases your tension. Seigi-sensei's shouts begin to fade as your mind is mixing reality with your flashbacks. Blurred faces of grinning men paralyzes you momentarily, unable to react to your reminiscence.
'If you resist, we'll let them devour you!
'You'll behave, right, __(y/n)? We don't want another mistake, ne?
'Get up! You are not allowed to rest! I said get up now!
"Do you always have to cry when we come here?" Gareki shakes his head at the terrified Yogi, finding comfort in hugging Nai.
"Yes! It's because Akari-sensei is scary! And his treatments hurt!"
"I think you're overreacting."
The three boys were also at the research tower for their usual physical examination as well as waiting for you to be finished with your speech session.
"What's with the bickering?" A pink haired doctor enters the room with three sand colored folders and a silver container.
"N-n-nothing! We're just t-talking!" Yogi responds, shivering at the sight of Akari.
"Here. Make sure to change your allergy patch as recommended. Do NOT forget." He hands the small, silver box to Yogi and evaluates the contents of the three folders.
"Everything is normal. Nothing strange and no changes, but I still need to see you next-"
"__(y/n)-nee." Nai interrupts Akari as his ears twitch slightly. He looks up and around as if trying to pinpoint the noise. "I can hear __(y/n)-nee."
Akari continues to observe Nai's special ability, waiting for him to further annotate what the others couldn't hear. He abruptly dashes out the room, following his senses. Akari, Yogi, and Gareki follow after the little one, the ex thief asking,
"Oi, Nai! What's wrong?"
"__(y/n)-nee is in trouble! She's...she's really scared!"
Akari takes over leading the group, knowing exactly where you were. Outside of the destined room they can hear Seigi's harsh demands.
"Talk! Answer my question! What the hell is wrong with you? Don't you understand that I have a reputation to build? I also have other patients to take care of so stop being selfish and talk!"
Yogi refuses to wait any further but is surprised when Gareki is the first to force himself inside. They can see Seigi standing and you almost on the edge of your seat. Your face was tightly in the clutch of his hand and the other nearly blocking the circulation in your arm.
"What are you doing, Seigi!?" Akari is appalled at his coworker's harassment as he also picks up a pained whimper leaving your lips.
"___(y/n)!" Yogi is about to separate you and the therapist but a certain Karasuna resident kicks him in the side, forcing him to grant you freedom.
"How can you call yourself a doctor?" Gareki glares at the fallen man.
"What the hell do you think you're doing, brat!?"
As soon as you were released and heard Yogi call out to you, your sense of time and place transgress to the present. Your body runs up to Yogi, hiding your crying face from the world.
"Me? What the hell do YOU think you're doing?" Gareki retorts back, grabbing the front of his shirt and pushing him to the wall.
"Have you been doing this to __(y/n)-chan all this time?" Yogi securely keeps you close to him, Nai also having wrapped his arms around you.
"I demand you let me go!" Seigi ignores the blonde, swatting away Gareki's wrist.
"Enough. Seigi, you understand that this incident will be the cause of your termination here as well as your license." Akari moves Gareki away from the speech therapist.
"What? Akari-sensei, you should understand how frustrating it is to work with her! She refuses to comply with my sessions! All I'm doing is trying to help, but she insists on burdening not only me but you and the rest that take care of her!"
"I, too, have dealt with difficult patients, but we have no right to force our own opinions on them. We work TOGETHER with the patient in order to provide the best care possible, not against. We are here to help people, not scare or hurt them. If you cannot understand that, then you have chosen the wrong profession." Akari nods to the three boys, silently indicating that they should bring you out of the room. You were assessed by another doctor who reported no injuries or signs of immediate distress. Akari suggested to be brought back to Second Ship, seeing that you and the others had no other business in the Research Tower. You had stopped crying a long time ago, now reflecting on what Seigi had said.
"__(y/n)-nee didn't do anything wrong!" Nai sensed your confusion and guilt, surprising the quiet group.
"Nai-chan..."Yogi watches him hug your arm tightly.
"That doctor was wrong! He..he shouldn't have treated you like that! I think that if you don't feel like talking, then you don't have to. We can understand you just fine." Your feelings from before became lifted and you placed an arm over the white haired boy, planting a kiss on the top of his head. Seigi's words now became somewhat of a motivation to you. You wanted to prove to him that you wouldn't burden any one anymore. They did their best to accommodate you and here you were, still doubting them. It has been months and your friends continued to show how much of good people they were.
Two weeks later, you decided that today will be the day you'll use your voice. You have been practicing alone to get used to hearing yourself talk. Slowly, the anxiety that dominated your life before your rescue was reduced dramatically. You found no urgent reason to worry and that when you would wake up in the mornings, you wouldn't be in a dark confinement.
'Yosh! The first person I see, I'll talk to!
' As soon as you exited the room, you were greeted by the man behind Nyanperowna.
"__(y/n)-chan! I'm so glad I caught you before I left! I have to go with Hirato somewhere, but I'll be back before dinner!"
You were jumbling with your words, unsure of why you were so...nervous! It wasn't that you feared him, you just felt like you lost control for a moment. You quickly grabbed your writing device, typing in,
"Okay! Have a save trip! I'll see you later!
"Mm! I will! See you!" Yogi winks before meeting Hirato outside of the ship. You let out a sigh, blaming your unpreparedness as the cause of your mistake.
'Next one! I was surprised, that's all!
You are about to make a turn but then find Gareki exiting his room. It was then your brain decided to shut down and just said no. Forget it. Gareki may be younger than you and was a good guy, but he wouldn't be your first choice in starting a verbal conversation. You greeted him through your pad before you went to look for Nai. The Niji hybrid would definitely be a good candidate to practice with!
"I'm here! I'm here!" Yogi bursts through the dining room doors only to be greeted by multiple sheep cleaning the area.
"Don't tell me...they finished?" Yogi pouts. He felt terrible when he told you that he would be back before dinner, but he didn't know he would be out with Hirato so late. He wanted to tell you ahead of time, but he wasn't able to get to his phone. He rushed to your room, but found you missing.
"Gareki-kun! Nai-chan!" He lets himself into the two's room.
"Yogi! Okaeri!" Nai says with a big, frosted smile. He had been munching on a cupcake when Yogi entered.
"Thanks Nai-chan, tadaima. Did you guys see __(y/n)-chan?"
"She might be with Tsukumo." Gareki answers also biting off a piece of a cupcake while reading a book.
"Eh? Where did you get those?"
"We baked them with Tsukumo-chan and __(y/n)-nee! It's to celebrate __(y/n)-nee for talking!" Nai reaches for another treat.
"Eh!? __(y/n)-chan spoke?!"
"She's been speaking to us all day." Gareki throws away the inedible paper wrap. A depressing, black cloud rains over Yogi who is now sitting on the floor with his arms wrapped around his knees.
"Yogi?" Nai expresses concern for his blonde friend.
"Leave him be." Gareki returns to finishing the last few pages of his book.
"I-I'm okay! I'm just gonna go eat now." Yogi sluggishly leaves the room with Nai watching him worriedly and Gareki not paying attention.
'How...how could I have missed it? This is a big thing for __(y/n)-chan! And why hasn't she said a word to me? I saw her this morning. Did I do something wrong? Or...or maybe it's because she doesn't like me?
' Yogi makes a dramatic, heartbreaking pose. 'Maybe she hates me and that she doesn't trust me! That's why she only talks to me through the pad!
Yogi has big tears forming in the corner of his eyes, sniffling loudly, 'I don't want __(y/n)-chan to hate me!
He then catches you exiting Tsukumo's room and quickly runs over to you, planting his hands on your shoulders.
"__(y-y/n)-chan! I'm sorry! I missed eating with you guys! I didn't know me and Hirato would be working so late! I wanted to call one of you, but I was too busy!"
"It's all right, Yogi-kun! Really, it's fine! Don't be upset. No one is mad." You immediately tried to console the distraught Circus fighter. "Did you eat yet?"
"Nnuh." Yogi shakes his head as you rub his back for comfort.
"I'll eat with you then. I'm still a little hungry and I-"
"Eh? EH? __(y/n)-chan, you're talking!" Yogi's eyes widen, realizing the absence of your electronic device and the use of your voice.
"Am I not suppose to?" You became slightly timid at his reaction.
"W-wait, I didn't mean it like that! It's just that I'm so happy! You talked to me!" He captures you in his arms, lifting you up and down a few times.
"Of course I would! Why wouldn't I?" You laughed a bit at his change of mood.
"Well, I heard from Gareki-kun and Nai-chan that you've been talking to them and I remember seeing you this morning, but you didn't say anything to me, so I thought that you hated me or didn't trust me."
"No, no, silly! Of course not! I wanted to practice with everyone first so that by the time I talk with you, I didn't mess up." Okay, so maybe that wasn't entirely true. You wanted him to be the first to hear you, but all your courage was gone as soon as he came by!
"Even if you did, I wouldn't have mind! I'm just glad you don't hate me." He smiles happily, finally letting you go so that he could eat. The sheep bring out Yogi's dinner and you leave the eating area briefly when he's halfway through his food.
"We saved you some cupcakes!" You announce, holding up a pink colored box. "There's still a lot more, but these are the ones we decorated for you!"
"Really? Even Gareki-kun made some? Let me see!" Yogi pushes aside his now empty plate, peeking inside the container. "Which one is Garek-kun's?" Yogi was excited at the thought of Gareki showing his caring side.
"This one." You pointed at a plain looking cupcake with a smear of white frosting.
"Eh?" Yogi blinks at its lack of creativity compared to yours, Tsukumo's, and Nai's.
"Let's just say it was really hard to persuade Gareki-kun to join us."
"Well, at least it's something? Which ones are yours?"
"These!" You pointed to three different colored and decorated sweets.
"Then I'll try it first! Itadakimasu!" Yogi sinks his teeth into the soft pastry, his taste buds jumping at the sweetness. "Oishi! You're really good at baking!"
"Actually, Tsukumo-chan was the one who did most of the baking, I just followed her instructions."
"But still!" He then attempts to guess who made the rest in the box. You had your own separate cupcakes, enjoying the desserts with your flashy, blonde friend.
You had invited Yogi to hang out in your room after dinner, finding that both of you weren't ready to retire for the night.
"Ehh, it's really storming out." You noted the harsh weather from the window.
"Maybe it won't last long then we'll be able to fly again." Yogi said. The conditions were too dangerous that the ship had to be stationed just outside of a town. Your ears picked up a loud boom and you felt the ship quiver at whatever caused the impact. Darkness takes over the light and your body freezes at the change in your sight.
"I'm gonna check it out." Yogi frowns, standing up from where he was seated on your bed, but you grabbed onto his sleeve.
"Wait!" You didn't realize what you did only till after the action was done.
"__(y/n)-chan?" He felt the grip on his clothing become tighter until you abruptly released him.
"S-sorry! I...let me come, too."
"But it might be dangerous. I'll come back as soon as I find out what's wrong."
"Right. I don't want to be a burden..." You nodded, looking at the floor before directing your eyes towards the only source of light, which came from the unpredictable lightening.
"N-no, that's not why I don't want you to come! I-I just don't w-want anything to happen to you since I don't know what's going on."
"It's all right. I know you didn't mean it like that."
Before Yogi could continue, the door opened and one of the sheep came in.
"This is a direct order from Hirato. Everyone is to stay inside while we assess the situation outside, baa!"
"Okay! Be careful, sheep-san!" Yogi returned to his spot beside you.
"Be careful and thank you." The dimly lit emergency lights from the hallway gives the blonde a clear panorama of your face. The worry and distress in your __(e/c) orbs were easily read by Yogi, quickly voicing his concern.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay." Before the door was shut, he was able to see that strained smile on your lips. He hums quietly while hesitantly nodding, not wanting to pressure you into opening up.
"I just don't like the dark." You finally said after a few seconds of silence.
"I don't know why, but I'm not too fond of it. I mean, it's all right when I go to bed, but if it's like this, I feel uneasy." You leaned back against your pillows.'That's why she wanted to come with me.'
He carefully puts himself on the edge, holding out both of his hands.
"Then let's go sit in the hallway! I don't really like the dark either. At least in the hallway, there's the emergency lights."
Your answer was stolen by fear and surprise as Yogi notices you staring out the window. You see a portion of a pale face with white eyes and dark hair, their eyes grinning hungrily at you.
"__(y/n)-nee! Yogi! I heard something fro-" Nai rushes into the door with Gareki, but a loud breaking noise directs their attention to the window. A long, black matter steers quickly towards you and Nai, wrapping itself around you tightly then pulling you outside.
"Yogi-kun! Gareki-kun! Run!"
"Nai-chan! __(y/n)-chan!" Yogi activates his two swords while Gareki follows the both of you. "Gareki-kun, wait!"
"Oh? It seems like mother has a lot of children to put to sleep." You heard a distorted female voice below you, finding the source of the black material to be her hair.
"Gareki!" Nai shouts the black haired boy's name, finding that he, too, was captured. The woman's top portion of her body was protruding from the ship, phasing through it like a ghost.
"Let them go!" Yogi is falling from your window, cutting through the stranger's hair. The blonde catches you and Nai with one arm and the other for Gareki.
"Sterne!" Tsukumo joins in the attack, forcing the woman out of the aircraft. She dodges the young girl's attack, letting out a low growl,
"Mother doesn't like bad children."
"Varuga!" You heard Yogi say, the blonde partners standing in front of you, Nai, and Gareki.
"V-varuga." Your eyes stare widely at the ghost-like woman, watching her body sink slowly into the ground. "T-they'll kill us."'Those creatures are dangerous! What are you standing there for!? Move!''See what happened to him? Because he didn't react fast enough, he died! Do you want to end up like that?'
Scolding voices block your surrounding noise, Nai noticing your frozen gaze.
"__(y/n)-nee? What's wrong?"
"Kill them." You whispered before dashing past Yogi and straight towards the enemy, a hard look replacing your previous stare.
"__(y/n)-chan! Don't!" Yogi reaches out to you, but the four are surprised by your speed and how efficiently you elude the varuga's hair assault. You stop when you're inches away from her, getting low on the ground and using your leg to kick at her chin. You used your other leg to repeat the attack, her full body now extracted from the Earth.
"You bad, bad girl!" She growls and lashes her hair in your direction.
"__(y/n)-chan!" Yogi raises his sword to assemble his vines, but Hirato and his banshees interrupt the purple eyed boy.
"But, Hirato-san! She'll get hurt!"
"Hirato, please let us help." Tsukumo pleaded.
"Please just wait a moment. There is something I'd like to see." Hirato focuses his eyes on you and your unexpected fighting skills. He watches as the varuga woman cuts at your cheek and legs, but your determination to eliminate the enemy doesn't waver. Punches and kicks were exchanged and Hirato wonders where you learned to defend yourself. There was something strange about your self defense, it didn't seem like you had any established training. The difference he saw in the training of Circus members and your skills was the lack of formal structure.
But your method was effective!
You now had the evolved human pinned against a tree, your palm pressing her head hard to the thick tree trunk. Your hand shook slightly as you continued to increase the pressure, ignoring the varuga's screams, stopping only until you heard an audible crunch. Even then you pushed a little further, feeling her face become malleable beneath your fingers. You let go of her body, stepping back while Hirato and the wailing women surround you. For a split second, the second ship captain had thought to have seen a glowing, ice blue around your irises.
"I k-killed the varuga. So you won't yell at me anymore, right? I can rest now?" Hirato nods to his banshees, one of them floating behind you and gently covering your eyes. He sees you take a deep breath then exhaling through your mouth while your shoulders begin to relax. Once she dispels your slight confusion, she releases you, flying towards Hirato's side and giving report. There were no abnormalities that she could detect and only minimal injuries were present. The other women surround the dead varuga, dissolving her body into light blue particles.
"Hirato-san! Are you okay? Where are the others? Are they safe?"
"___(y/n)-chan!" Three familiar people chime your name together and you turn to find Yogi, Tsukumo, Nai, and Gareki.
"Are you all right?"
"Yes, I'm fine. What about you?"
"We're okay." Tsukumo answers.
"Oi, where did you learn to fight like that?" Gareki was intrigued with your hidden talent.
"I don't know? I just...moved?" You shrugged one shoulder, giving half a smile.
"Hah? You mean to tell me you did all of that without thinking?"
"Pretty much? I mean, if I did learn it from somewhere, I can't remember."
"We can figure it out another time. It's still raining and I don't think any of you would like to get sick." Hirato starts walking towards the ship.
All eyes look to the rear of the aircraft, noticing a large, fallen tree situated on the flying vehicle. You glance at the plant's body, judging that the woman varuga was the cause of its fall. There were no traces of lightening touching the bark, only a clean cut by its base. She had probably thought by damaging the ship, it would distract her prey. Hirato was unable to explain the varuga's reason for her attack since she was killed before questioning. But he knew it had to be either one of two things, to capture Nai or Gareki or she was looking to satisfy her hunger.
"Before you go back to your rooms, I would need all of you to see the Doctor. The medic rooms have back up generators of their own so if there is anything you need, it can be provided."
After your check-ups, each return to their designated rooms, Yogi walking with you. You blink at the broken window and the rain water drenching the floor, knowing it was going to be a difficult night to sleep through.
"The sheep must be really busy with repairing the lights and the outside of the ship." You understood how much work needed to be done so you didn't complain about the state of your room. You went to your drawers to grab some PJs, making sure to bundle up to shield you from the cool temperature.
"Don't tell me you're gonna stay here." Yogi frowns slightly.
"Well, yeah?" Where else would you sleep?
"Nah uh! It's too cold in here! Plus it's not safe! Stay with me in my room."
"Eh? Oh no, I couldn't do that. I don't want to intrude-"
"Of course you aren't intruding! I think it'll be fun! Like a mini sleepover!" Yogi gently pulled you from your room to his, setting his Nyanperowna flashlight on his nightstand to provide light.
"You really do love Nyanperowna." You giggle at the massive amount of cat pillows and decorations all around his room. He nods happily before momentarily leaving the room to let you change to your night clothes. You did the same for him and when you returned, you placed a hand over your mouth to control your laughter.
"Hmmm? What is it?" Yogi turns to you as he is setting up a small futon beside his bed.
"Your PJs." You pointed at his Nyanperowna jumpsuit.
"Why, is there something wrong with them?" He asked, looking at his front and back, checking if there were any flaws. You watch as his tail moves side to side, biting your bottom lip. It was a bit...odd, seeing a 21 year old man wear feline pajamas. Well, he was the man behind the character so you guessed it was okay?
"No, nothing is wrong with them." You smile before helping set up the futon.
"A-ah, wait, you're sleeping on my bed."
"Don't be silly, this is your room so you should be sleeping on your own bed."
"Nah uh! You're my guest, so you should take the bed. Besides! I've been wanting to use my Nyanperowna futon I recently bought!" You look down at the Japanese bedding, only realizing now the Nyaperowna prints on it.
"Oh my God, you're just too cute, you know that?" You let out another smile, convinced in using the bed. You settled in your spots, hugging Yogi's blanket close to your body.
"Wow, this material's really good. I can see why the sheep have a hard time getting you out of bed."
"It's the best! I'll get you one when we see a Nyanperowna shop. Actually, we need to get you tons of Nyanperowna stuff for your room!"
"That'll be nice, thank you, but you don't have to." You didn't want to waste their money. Before Yogi could continue, the flashlight shut off and the room becomes much darker.
"Yabe! I think the batteries are dead! I'll go ask Hirato-san if he has any spares." He is about to stand up, but you stop him.
"It's all right. We're going to sleep soon anyway, so I don't think we'll need the light.
"Are you sure?" Yogi was concerned with you being uncomfortable in the dark.
"I'm sure. Besides, it's late and we should get some rest." The blonde agrees, laying back down on the soft cushion.
"You know, if you feel scared or you don't feel comfy, you can hold my hand."
"Huh?" You see him extend his hand upwards, peeking from the edge of the bed to offer it to you.
"W-well, Nai-chan says that when he's sad or scared and someone holds his hand, he feels better so maybe it might help you? If y-you want though. I don't want you feeling upset or anything."
Your heart feels slightly warm at his considerate behavior and you lay on your stomach near the edge to reach for his hand.
"Thank you." Your knuckles bump gently into his palm then guided your fingers to grasp his hand. Yogi was trying to move his hand to fit yours, his heart beating quicker than normal every time he felt your skin brush against his. Eventually your hands met and he couldn't help but notice how perfectly your fingers slipped in between the spaces of his, almost as if they belonged there.
"Sweet dreams, ne?"
"Mm. Good night, Yogi-kun." Although you exchanged good nights, your hearts and minds were too focused on the effect from your hands in each other's hold.
"Huwaahh..." Yogi yawns loudly, his body fighting off last night's sleep and preparing to start the day. He finds that your fingers were still interlocked, almost forgetting that you borrowed his bed. Somehow he was able to sleep peacefully and comfortably. Well, more comfortable than usual.
"Nggh..." He hears you quietly mumble and finds you rolling towards his way. His eyes widen, reacting quickly and cushioning your fall with his body. You continue to snore inaudibly, your face moving closer to Yogi's neck.'And she says that I'm difficult to wake up. I can't believe she can still sleep after that!'
He laughs a bit as he tries his best to not disturb you. 'Well, I didn't hear anything about a mission for today and the sheep haven't come in so I guess it's okay to sleep for a little bit more.'
"Time to wake up, baa! Wake up!" Yogi mumbled in response to the sheep, feeling as if he just closed his eyes.
"Hirato says to meet in his office after breakfast."
"Hai, hai. We're getting up."
"Hmmm?" You hear the little lamb and Yogi, sitting up in your spot. "Eh? When did I get here?" You didn't see yourself in the bed you were in last night.
"You rolled over."
"Sorry about that. I hope you weren't hurt or squished. You could've woke me, you know." You pouted slightly.
"That's all right! I wasn't bothered at all. Besides, I didn't want to disturb your sleep."
"All right, if you say so. Anyway, let's start getting ready so we can have breakfast with everyone." You helped him fix the futon and bed sheets before leaving to your now repaired room.
After breakfast, you all headed to Hirato's office, wondering what news he had for today.
"Good morning. Everyone is doing well?" Although he directs the question towards the whole group, he is more concerned with your answer, especially with what happened last night. There were no complaints or negative answers, deciding to not mention the varuga incident.
"Anyway, how would you all like a small break?"
"Yes, go to Rinroll, the Ice Crystal Town. While you do an investigation, you can have some fun in the snow."
"Yahooo! When do we leave?" Yogi asks.
"In an hour. You'll meet your guide there who'll give you more details. I have a meeting with Tsukitachi and Akari." He gives the gang a closed eye smile.
"C-c-cold!! It's so cold!" Yogi whines loudly, holding you and Nai close to his body. "H-h-hi-hi-hirato-san no baka!!" 'Go and have a break.''Have fun in the snow.''Enjoy.'
An image of Hirato's smile flashes in the blonde boy's mind, questioning his captain's motives.
"What was that kind smile all about!?!?!" He howls into the wind, Gareki scoffing at his behavior. You see Nai poking at the snow before stomping his foot on the white ground. He then jumps up and down twice, laughing at the new sensation.
"Like it?" You smile as he nods excitedly. A white, long haired man approaches the five of you, assuming that he was the guide Hirato mentioned. You squint your eyes, looking intently at him.
"What are you doing?" Gareki asks.
"I can't hear what he's saying." With the wind blowing loudly and your earmuffs blocking out his soft voice, you were attempting to read his lips.
"It's nothing important."
The guide brings out a pink gift box with a blue ribbon securely wrapped around it, setting it down before Yogi. When opened, a small snow man is revealed and you read a paper that was inside its container.
"This was designed by the Research Tower. It's a warm snowman named Yukkin." you read out loud.
"Ahh! It is warm!" Yogi feels Yukkin rub its head against his cheek. Although your body was dying for warmth, you didn't mind the weather. At least you weren't cooped up inside a dark place. You hold out your hand, watching the snowflakes slowly dissolve in your glove and then inhaling the cold air deeply.'I wonder when was the last time I played in the snow?'
You squat down and gathered a portion of snow in your hands. You cupped the frozen vapor, shaping it into a ball before a devious thought passes through your mind. You grin to yourself, throwing it at your target.
"What the-!?" You hear Gareki shout after being hit in the back of his head.
"Yes?" You winked, kissing two fingers and sending it towards his way in a playful manner.
"Oh?" A tick mark pulsates on Gareki's cheek as he scoops a large amount of snow in his arms. Before he could finish, you threw another one at his cheek.
"You're so slow!" You joked.
"What are they doing?" Nai asks Yogi.
"It's a snowball fight! You make balls out of snow and you throw it at a person! It's fun!"
"Really? I want to try!" Nai copies your action and runs towards the goggle boy.
"Gareki!" The little one calls out his name and flings the snow at his face. "Yogi, you're right! It is fun!"
"You damn-" Gareki wasn't expecting Nai to follow your behavior, extending his arm to grab the Niji hybrid.
"All right, Gareki-kun! Are you enjoying?" Yogi had assembled an excess chunk of snow in his arms, pouring it over the boy's head.
"You bastard!" He shouts, grabbing a handful of the white fluff and shoving it in his face.
"Let's have a match! Girls vs boys! Let's see which team can get the most hits!" You declared after Tsukumo finishes speaking with the guide.
"Of course if you think it's too much of a challenge, you can sit over there with Yukkin." Tsukumo knew exactly how to get Gareki involved with the game.
"You're on!" He accepts, hating to lose as he aims at Tsukumo. Five minutes into the match, you find yourself being chased by Yogi, dodging the snow balls. You turn your head to see how far the second fighter is and find that he is gone.
"Huh? Did I lose him?" Your eyes scan the trees carefully, making sure he is not hiding behind any of them. You let out a small yelp, surprised by his sudden appearance before you. No fair! He used his Circus powers! You went to take a step back, however, you didn't see the small incline behind you and started to fall backwards. Out of natural reaction, you grabbed Yogi's arm, dragging him with you. Yogi felt the gravitational pull haul him to the ground and to guarantee your safety, he clung onto you. Your bodies revolve down the gradual hill, stopping at the end with Yogi on top.
As soon as the movement stopped, Yogi opened his eyes, supporting himself on his forearms to prevent his weight crushing your small frame. He feels a magnetizing effect when your eyes meet, admiring the beauteous hue. When you both exhale, it's when he realizes that your lips were only a breath away. He wanted to touch them and experience what kind of sensation would be delivered. Would these pleasant feelings only increase?
Doki, doki. Doki, doki.
His heart was nearly beating in his throat. So many different and strong emotions were coursing through him and he hasn't even kissed you!
What was going on? Everything in his mind pertained to you. From how gorgeous you looked to giving his life to protect you. He wanted to make you happy! These feelings that you gave him, he wanted to share it with you. Yogi wanted you to feel the same warmth you provided his heart.
"Eheh, gomen." You sheepishly smiled, looking up at his handsome face. Your cheeks burned at the short distance between your faces, but you didn't want to move.
"I-it's all right. You're not hurt, right?" He finally found his words.
"No, I'm not. Are you?"
"Nope! I'm perfectly fine. But I'm glad you're safe!" Yogi wouldn't feel satisfied leaving if he didn't make some kind of contact with you. To keep it safe, he playfully rubbed his nose against yours, displaying a big and shy grin. Your face continued to brighten, but you responded by bumping your nose gently with his.
"Yogi! __(y/n)-nee! Where did you go?" The two of you heard Nai calling out in the distance.
"Guess we better make an appearance before they get worried." Yogi suggested while helping the both of you to your feet. You met with the others, pausing the game for now since the five of you still haven't started the small mission. The objective was to investigate a mansion that was owned by an executive officer of a Kafka related company. Although the First Ship had detained the man, the five of you were doing a quick follow up to make sure nothing was overlooked. In the end, the results of your search found no evidence related to Kafka.
"Let's head back to the lodge before it gets dark." Yogi looked up at the cloudy, gray sky then at you.
"What's wrong?" Gareki asks before the blonde could. You had stopped momentarily, staring to your left.
"Huh? Nothing, sorry. I thought I saw something." You smiled slightly, continuing your walk with the rest of the group.
"Kiharu, look at what they're wearing." Two people hiding themselves in between the thick branches of a tall tree were stalking the small gang not too far from them.
"Hmm? Isn't that...Circus?" Said a blue haired boy with three lines of red going down his face.
"That's not good. If we didn't destroy all the evidence in that mansion, Uro will kill us." His red headed partner replied.
"Then I guess we'll just have to kill them like crazy, right Kagiri?"
"What a pain, but I guess we have no choice."
Your head snaps upwards, eyes widening as you see two strangers coming from above.
Their heavy land causes you and the others to scatter in different directions.
"You guys okay!?" Yogi was the first to get up, materializing his swords.
"Sorry, but we can't let you leave here alive." Kiharu chooses Tsukumo as his first target. She blocks his attacks with her arms, grunting at his ponderous impacts. She was pushed back beside Nai, the little boy wearing a worried expression.
"Be careful! They're varuga so-"
"Tsukumo-chan!" Nai acted quickly, using himself as a shield as soon as he saw Kiharu's kick.
"Nai!" You and Tsukumo scream as his body was roughly thrust to the side.
"Itaiiiii!" The one with make up yelped, hoping on one leg.
"Hurry up and come here, you useless bastard." Gareki diverted the attention to himself, having used a gun he picked up from the mansion.
"Varuga!" you growled lowly.
"Kiharu! Don't mess up their clothes! Especially that black haired kid's! Their coats are designed by the research tower. They protect you against the cold. I don't have that in my collection, yet!"
"Urusei, Kagiri! I'm gonna kill that guy!"
"Tsukumo-chan! Take Nai, Yukkin, and __(y/n)-chan somewhere saf-"
"Gah!" Yogi hears one of their enemies shout as you punched the red head right into his partner. You had that same slightly dazed look from when you fought with the previous varuga. Guess that meant you weren't leaving anytime soon.
"Go and hide somewhere safe! We'll reunite later!" Yogi instructs and Tsukumo reluctantly agrees, leaving the three of you to fight.
Kiharu and Kagiri crash to the snow, the taller male glaring slightly at his friend.
"Kagiri, this is your fault! I can't go all out because you want to preserve their clothes! Also, those other two escaped!"
"Who cares about that girl and brat! We'll get them later!"
While they were arguing, you made a step forward, but Gareki held onto your wrist. Your eyes went from where his hand was to his face, blinking questioningly at him.
"Wait." He says, ignoring his own questions about your glowing, ice blue eyes. "Oi, who are your superiors?"
"Huh?" The varuga boys turn to him. "Our boss? You mean Uro?"
"He'll kill us if we don't eliminate them! Can't we go all out now?" The bi colored eye boy stands first.
"Fine. I don't want to see Uro mad anyway." The shorter one pulls out a rectangular device.
"Rasudan Bug!" A flash of light stuns the three of you for a moment, blinding your vision.
"A special rhythm of light signals was transmitted into your brain making it so that you lose your eyesight temporarily." You felt something hit the side of your face, causing your gait to become unbalanced. Before you met the ground, you were thrown to the side, skidding on the snow's surface.
"Yogi-kun! Gareki-kun!" You shouted their names, your mind reverting from your dazed state to your usual active self.
"__(y/n)!" Gareki responded, reaching out his hand. "Yog-"
"Oi, try and stay quiet." The air from his lungs were forced out as an impact causes him to fall on his knees.
"Yo, ikemen! Wouldn't it be better if you made a wilder face?" Yogi felt the back of his head being grabbed and slammed into the ground.
"Gareki-kun, __(y/n)-chan, say something!" He yelled when he felt Kiharu pull back on his hair. Suddenly, a lumbering pang crushes his heart, cutting him short of air. He bears through the pain, wanting to detect where his friends were. "Where are you, __(y/n)-chan! Gareki-kun!"
The throbbing reaches past its tolerating level, Yogi's eyes widening at the discomfort. He lets out an uneven gasp, descending to the floor.
"Huh? I didn't give him the finishing blow yet."
Spots of light begin to dot your vision, indicating the return of your sight. You blink a few times to adjust and held your breath when you see Yogi lying beside the varuga's feet.
"Yogi-kun!" You ran from your spot to where he is, but Gareki grabs you around your waist.
"Wait! There's something strange." He nods to Yogi and you watch as he jerks his head back suddenly.
"Ha ha." Low chuckles erupt from throat. "Ha ha ha ha ha!"
"Ahahahaha!" His laugh becomes louder and you frown at the unfamiliar behavior of your friend. Bright particles of silver take over his golden locks and his pupils glow a red color.
"Let's do something fun! Something amazing! So that everyone can scream!" He takes a deep breath before hollering, "Ggggyaaaaaaaaaah!!"
"Yogi!" You go to reach for him, but Gareki refuses to let you meet him in that state. The cold wind becomes harsher and the vines revolve dangerously throughout the surrounding area. Yogi looks your way, still letting out fits of laughter.
"Kuso!" Gareki holds you protectively as vines gather around the two of you. You and Gareki are now laying on the floor, the long plants hovering you, acting as a barrier.
"Yogi! Let us out!" You bang your fist against against the green covers.
"Gareki-kun, what happened to him?"
"I don't know. I've never seen him like that."
You look from Gareki to above you, hoping Yogi was safe. Minutes later, crunching noises can be heard from the outside and a hand pulls the goggle boy forward. You sit up once there was an opening, a silver haired Yogi now before you.
"I wonder why I protected you?" 'He doesn't recognize us?'
"Yogi." Gareki says
"Hmmmm? What is it? You wanna play?" Silver!Yogi tilts his head slightly with a calm smile on his lips.
"No, I don't wanna play!" He seemed annoyed as he crashes his head into his.
"Gareki-kun! What the hell!?" You scolded him.
"I-itai!" Silver!Yogi is writhing in pain on the floor, holding his face. "You're so mean, Ga....Ga..."
You and Gareki share a look of surprise, listening to him intently.
"Gareki-kun! ___(y/n)-chan!" He suddenly rises back, hands gripping Gareki's arms. "So that's where you were! I'm so glad you're okay!"
"__(y/n)-chan! Are you okay? Does anything hurt?" You shake your head in response.
"I'm glad you're safe." He carefully places his hands over your cheeks and leans his forehead against yours.
"Yogi..." You whisper his name as you watch his hair turn back to their original color. You put your hands over his, confused about his transformation.
"I'm so sorry. Was I unconscious?" His voice is starting to become weak.
"I....I'm so happy you're here and safe. You're still warm, too. That's...great..." His hands release your face and his body starts to slide down until his head stops on your lap. You hear Gareki stand up, cocking his gun in case the varuga were still present. You stared down at your savior, brushing away strands of gold from his eyes. Once it was determined safe, you and Gareki help pick up the tall Circus fighter and regroup with the other two.
All five of you were sent to the Research Tower for a medical examination. Once cleared, you, Nai, and Gareki were waiting in the consultation room while Tsukumo returned to Hirato to report the incident. A familiar pink haired doctor joins the three of you in your designated room, settling himself on the other lounge chair.
"Yogi will be fine. He received proper treatment and is asleep." He already knew that would be the first question to be asked. "Now, tell me exactly what happened?"
You and Gareki took turns telling the events, being the only two to witness Yogi's change. Akari explains it was some type of allergic reaction, hence his constant use of the white patch. The more he tried to explain it, it made less sense to you and Gareki. Although you kept quiet, Gareki kept firing questions, knowing he was hiding something behind his words.
"We were involved in that. We deserve to know, so explain it properly." He was getting annoyed with the lack of clarity.
"Gareki-kun, it's all right. Akari-sensei would never lie to us, especially if he knows his lies could get people hurt. He wouldn't do that, so let's trust him, ne?" You gave an indirect warning that if something were to happen because of him leaving things out, you would make sure he would be held responsible. Akari's lips twitched slightly into a deeper frown, surprised that you caught his unspoken truth.
"In any case, thank you for taking care of us and Yogi-kun." You bowed your head, still grateful for his help.
You knew Akari wasn't telling the whole truth and there had to be a good reason for it, so you tried to understand from his position. But when you thought back on Yogi's change, you were worried for the blonde fighter. You threw those thoughts away, wanting to visit Yogi.
"Can we go see him?"
"Yes, but don't disturb him."
"Of course." You nodded, standing up and Nai does the same.
"I want to come!"
"Let's go together." You smile and little Nai holds your hand, following your lead. A tiny and impressed smirk appears on Gareki's lips, no longer needing to bother Akari for the truth. You said it all.
"Anyway, did you find anything with __(y/n)?"
"What about __(y/n)?" Akari raises a brow. "Her results came back fine."
"Don't tell me you're going to keep something from us again. She just did that dazed out thing like last time. Didn't that shitty four eyes tell you anything?"
"He didn't have enough information for me to go on." Akari remembered the brief meeting he had with Tsukitachi and Hirato in the morning about your reaction to a varuga. "If you know something, tell me more."
"She changed, too, but nothing like Yogi. She just fought a lot better, but how she moved wasn't normal. She did mention she doesn't remember who taught her to fight, but she was almost equal with those monsters. Actually, she killed one yesterday. Her eyes were also glowing blue and she does all of this without thinking. Almost like it was nothing to her?"
"I see. This is definitely something we have to further research." Akari places his chin in between his thumb and forefinger.
"Oi, she doesn't have any varuga cells in her, right?"
"No, of course not. We did multiple tests and we did another one a few minutes ago. All came back negative and I can assure you those tests are 100% accurate."
"Then what is it?"
"That is what we have to look into." It wasn't varuga cells, Akari knew that, so exactly what was causing you to change?
"Nggh..." Yogi can see light trying to peek behind his closed eye lids as the remnants of his previous memory come together. He opens them quickly, assessing his surroundings and discovers he isn't in Rinroll. Instead, he is in one of the rooms of the Research Tower.
"Yogi!" His ears pick up the sound of his little friend.
"Nai-chan!" He sits up, his body slightly sore, but no pain is evident.
"You're awake! Are you okay?"
"Mhm! I'm fine, where's Gareki-kun and __(y/n)-chan? Are they all right?"
"Yeah! They're okay. They're with Akari-sensei. They just left a few minutes ago. Akari-sensei is going to put __(y/n)-nee to sleep!"
"Eh!? That doesn't sound good! We have to save __(y/n)-chan!" Nai is picked up by Yogi, the golden boy running out of his room.
"Yogi? You can't be up yet! You have to stay in bed!" One of the passing nurses catches him. "Akari-sensei will be upset!"
"It's all right! I'm fine! I'm going to see him now anyway!"
The nurse continues to plead for him to stay in the room, afraid if something happens to Yogi, she would be at fault. With Nai's hearing ability, they were able to locate your room.
"__(y/n)-chan!" He calls your name and bursts through the door, but accidentally collides with another being.
"You idiot! What the hell are you doing!?" A rough voice surprises Yogi happily, matching the tone to be Gareki!
"Gareki-kun! You're all right!" He embraces the boy tightly.
"Get off me!" Gareki is pushing the older male away.
"Yogi-kun! You're up! How are you feeling?" Yogi looks up and ahead to see you seated up in the hospital bed.
"Che, if he's got this much energy, then we have nothing to concern ourselves with." The blue eyed boy scoffed. Before Yogi could tackle you with a hug, Akari interferes, glaring down at him.
"Why are you not in your room? You should be resting."
"A-a-akari-sensei! I...I came to help __(y/n)-chan! Nai-chan said you're putting her to sleep! I don't understand what that means, but it doesn't sound good!"
"Baka! He's trying to help her remember! He's gonna help bring back her memories." Gareki crosses his arms.
"I'll basically be hypnotized while Akari-sensei asks me a few questions." You added while another doctor begins to attach a few electrodes to your arms, temples, and near your chest.
"Yes and I'm going to start now, so go back to your room." Akari takes a seat, demanding Yogi to leave.
"B-but I wanna stay with __(y/n)-chan!"
"Can he, please? I'd feel better if everyone was here." Tsukumo was missing at the moment, but that was because she went back to Rinroll with Hirato to investigate the mansion again.
"Fine, but no one is allowed to interrupt my work. No one is to touch or speak to __(y/n), got it?" Akari gave them a threatening look, not going to be pleased if the boys didn't listen to instructions. Yogi and Nai nodded obediently, Gareki taking his seat and waiting for the doctor to begin.
"Are you ready? I'm going to start." Akari sees you smile slightly at the three boys before nodding to him, laying comfortably on the bed. You didn't know what kind of memories would surface, but you had prepared yourself. You take in a deep breathe before shutting those __(e/c) eyes.
He isn't a real character from the anime or show! I made him up for the sake of the fic.
I'm randomly using Nima in this chapter. karneval.wikia.com/wiki/Nima
